Stitch Red for Wendy Jo

Wendy Jo let me know she received my Stitch Red exchange piece for our Friends Through Thread group. I stitched French Square by Scissortail Designs, using 36ct opalescent fabric and Threadworkx 1089. Here it is a bit fuzzy:

Quite an exciting evening in the post-surgery convalescent homes. Mother started experiencing pain in her leg, so a call was made to the home health provider. After a phone call to her doctor, we think it is a pinched nerve. My brother in law had to go to the ER with his knee. It had become inflamed, so they did an ultrasound and determined there was no blood clot. My niece, got very ill. They determined it was the antibiotic which was causing her discomfort. I believe I will strive to stay healthy. Being sick and recovering from surgery is the pits.

Meet my new best friend

This little gadget, one of my many, has been waiting patiently to be put to use. Oh my, it did the trick for me while stitching on a WIP. I carried BBD's Winter Wonderland to the hospital with me this last week. My Mighty Bright allowed me to stitch late into the night. When I needed the extra magnification for tired eye stitching it was at hand, as was the extra little bit of light. Needless to say, this is one stitching gadget that will go on my bus trips with me. " I am in no way employed by the Mighty Bright corporation, this is my personal endorsement." LOL!!

My sister and I brought Mother home from the hospital yesterday after a horrible night. If you ever hear Miralax and recovering 90 year old surgery patient in the same sentence, then run, don't walk, to the nearest complaint station. Awful, awful situation for both the patient and relatives staying with her.

My youngest sister made some out-a-site chicken noodle soup last night thinking it would be good for Mother. Then we re-read the discharge papers. Clear liquid diet. So, making my second trip to the dreaded WM, I purchase clear liquid diet meal ingredients.

Needless to say, there is no place like home. I slept quite well in my humble and somewhat cluttered surroundings. Sister reported Mother was up early this morning getting ready to take her meds.

The weather is cool and dreary today in my part of Oklahoma. Who's complaining?, certainly not this stitcher. What more could I ask for? a great stitching day and a hot bowl of home-made chicken soup for lunch. Well, if I could throw in a good college football game....Yeah.

HoE Santa for Carol

Carol let me know she has received the exchange piece I stitched for her and she's happy with it. The subject for the Perpetual Ornament Exchange on HoE for this round was Santa. I chose to stitch an old design by Heartstrings, leaflet price $1.50. It is stitched on a 32ct tea-dyed fabric and I used the DMC threads listed. It was my first attempt at finishing a circle ornie. I believe I can do it, I just have to find a more efficient way. It turned out larger than I expected, but Carol says her Christmas tree can handle it! Here he is:

My FTT Stitch Red exchange is all packaged and ready to go. Hopefully I'll get it mailed today. Since yesterday was spent in the ER with my mom, I wasn't able to get to the post office. I must say, it's a pretty design. I'll post a photo as soon as my partner receives it.

I plan on putting the finishing stitches in on one of my WIP's this weekend. It's PS's 2011 Limited Edition Santa. I think I'll have this boy framed. Our organist at church does framing, so I may be able to talk her into it. We'll see.

Hoe Santa Exchange from Lisa

The postman was very nice to me today. He delivered my HoE Santa Exchange from my partner Lisa S. Now, Lisa and I have exchanged several pieces over the years, so we know each other's likes and dislikes. She did a bang up job on this exchange by choosing a Prairie Schooler design for me. It's one of their older freebies, and you know, I do not believe I have this one in my design stash. I have it hanging by the light switch in the hallway so I see it first thing in the morning and last thing at night. Thanks so much Lisa, you know I absolutely love it.

Don't Ya Just Hate It?

Friday night I completed the stitching on an exchange piece that's due on Feb. 15th. That's good, right? Well, yes it is. I've even looked closely, and I believe there's not one stitch out of place or forgotten. So, yesterday, I thinks to myself...Stitch on one of your UFO's before you start the next exchange piece. And I did I stitched on a BBD and made good progress. OH, NO! I was off one stitch. So, I frogged what I had stitched, and then re-stitched. Note to self, oh heck, I've said it before and it doesn't help. It's one of the joy's of stitching. Have a wonderful Sunday everyone.

Just a few more days to enter my 100th follower give-a-way. Haven't decided what I'm going to stick in the box, but I anticipate lots of stitchy stuff!

Winter Seasonal for Karen

I heard from Karen that she received the Winter Seasonal Exchange piece I sent her. I was somewhat worried about the package getting to its destination because it sat in Tulsa distribution center over a day before it got on the road. I chose an old design from the 1990's to stitch. I didn't notice until after I had the piece packaged and ready to mail I forgot to stitch the belt!. As my good friend says, We just do the best we can. I need to start taking a photo of the stitching before I do the finishing. I still think he's a cutie.

On the stitching front I'm working on my HoE Santa Ornament exchange piece. It is going slow, slow. Hopefully I'll get the stitching done this week. This is what I stitched for Wendy Jo for her birthday. We are birthday buddies on the Friends Through Threads exchange. She likes Americana, so this LHN design was perfect for me to stitch for her. I also included a needle threader and a gift certificate to Anita's Little Stitches. Wendy said she had this design in her stash to stitch. I used a 32ct fabric and the called for DMC's. I love the tree in this design. It turned out pretty well if I do say so myself. I've stitched the design for myself and also received it as an exchange piece. Well, I have three exchanges waiting on me, so guess I'd better get those needles flyin'. Have a great evening.

Last/First

Here's my last stitching for 2011 and my first finishing for 2012. Completed the beading yesterday morning even though I had the piece stitched on Christmas Eve. Some reason I couldn't get motivated to finish it. The design is Fleur de Lys Tree by ScissorTail Designs. She is from Tulsa. CC's Belle Sole Creme de Menthe was the called for threads, but I didn't have that color so I substituted a Threadworkx color. It's a gift for my pastor's wife. Since it's still Christmas until the 5th, I'm still on time!

I'm presently working on an exchange gift, so no photos right now. Have a great day.

I received two fabulous exchange pieces in the mail this week. The first was the HoE Christmas Box from Lillie. Oh my, what a treat. Lillie made the box herself, then stuffed it with wonderful little goodies. She left instructions that I should open each little gift in order as numbered, and I did. What fun I had. Unfortunately my photos aren't great. There just isn't anyplace in my small duplex to stage a photo. Pop over to her blog to see the exchange better.She included an Angry Bird tape measure, a small pincushion jar filled with assorted buttons, some lace on a dress form she made, Christmas colored DMC, a LHN design and a patriotic badge, some candy, and a premade Christmas ornament on which she had attached It's Daffycat's Believe she stitched.

Here's the Stitcher's Choice ornament I received from Gwen. Now, I wonder how she knew I liked reindeer? I have it hanging with other reindeer I have either stitched or received in exchanges. Thank you Gwen. You stitched a wonderful ornament.

This is the Stitcher's Choice I sent to Ellen in Singapore. I read that she liked sunflowers and Prairie Schooler designs, so I couldn't resist stitching this for her.

I've stitched some small ornaments for gifts, but forgot to take a photo. Just too much going on right now.

I think I've got one more ornament to stitch and that'll be it for this year. Merry Christmas to all my blogging friends.

Julianne and I decided to do another exchange between us. She stitched me the cat. I only wish my Tobiecat would smile at me like this one! I stitched her the angel. I read where Angela received my stitched piece for the Seasonal Exchange group. I stitched a Lizzie Kate design for her because I sorta thought she liked LK's designs. Lucky me, she hadn't stitched this one. I used a 28ct tea dyed Monaco fabric and recommended fibers. I'm using Angela's photo because hers is much better than mine. So....here it is:

Travel is in my plans again. For the weekend, my stitchin' bud Lynn and I are heading down to Idabel to visit our stitchin' bud Mary Ann. She's having her Christmas Open House at Mimi's. I'm sure the van will be full of goodies and gifts on our way back. Then Monday my travelin' bud Diane and I are heading to Branson. We'll shop a little and take in a couple of shows. She wants to see Brule and go to the Dixie Stampede and maybe we'll go see Pierce Arrow too.. It'll be a fun trip for us. We're staying at resort about 10 miles from town. Looking forward to it.

I hired a young man to do some maintenance work on my abode. So far he'd done some siding replacement, installed a new storm door, three window replacements, some shutters and three light fixtures. The place is looking so much better and my pocketbook is quite abit lighter!

A first for me

No stitching to show even though I have been stitching. Had quite a shock last night, literally. OK had a 5.6 earthquake . Now, tornadoes, yes, earthquakes, no. At first I did not know what was happening. I initially thought one of the hospital helicopters got too close to the house. Then I realized what one happening. A very spooky feeling for this old gal.

I just remembered I do have some finishes to show. Chris and Denise are visiting from California. I made these for them. I think they liked them.

I've stitched this design before, and just love it. Hmm, wonder if I should do one for me? Me thinks I should.

On another note, the OK State Cowboys won a hard fought, error laden game with Kansas State. Pistols fire, unfortunately some of the shots were really close...fumbles and interceptions. One thing for certain, they cannot play like that against OK U and win. Predictions are they will move up to #2 in the BCS poll, We'll see what happens.

Time for another cup of coffee. This fall back had me up at 4:00 a.m. A very short night.

A gift from and for Lynn

The long pillow above is from my friend Lynn. We belong to a sorority that has secret sisters. Gifts are exchanged periodically during the year. Well, last night was reveal night, and the pillow was one of my gifts. She did a fantastic job of finishing it. I gave her the little Halloween pillow for taking care of my cat Tobie while I was on my trip to Chicago. Thank you Lynn, you know I love it.

This beauty was received yesterday as part of the Seasonal Exchange group. Elisa was my partner, thanks so much I love it.. My photo doesn't do this piece justice. The color is more vibrant in real life. I really like the way she finished the pillow. The design is a Bent Creek piece, Autumn House. I'm gong to have to try this finish. When I saw the envelope in the mailbox I was a bit puzzled, because I thought I had received all my exchanges. Well, slap me silly, I totally had forgotten I signed up for this exchange. I pulled all the threads, selected the design and fabric before I left for Chicago. Guess I just forgot. Anyway, needless to say, I am stitching my piece for my partner! I believe I'll make the mailing deadline.

Above is the Hoe Scissor Fob I stitched for Lisa S. She and I have exchanged stitched pieces in several exchanges. Since I totally forgot to take a snap of what I sent. I've borrowed Lisa's photos. She says she likes it, and the Heath Bars. I sent more, but temptation got the best of her! Can't blame her for that...they happen to be one of my favorites too.

Here's the fob I recieved in the exchange also. It's from Newfoundland's Deanne. We've exchanged a few times too in HoE. You may or may not remember, but I love the small finishes. Deanne couldn't have picked a better choice for me. She included lots of goodies too. Just look at that purple effects thread from DMC. She included a notepad and some candy too. Thanks so much Deanne. Your fob is on my scissors as I type!

A new finish

Here's my latest finish. Put the finishing touches on it while I watched Oklahoma State eek by Missouri. (GoPokes) I have some little light bulbs, somewhere in this house and will attach them...if I find them! Hope his Mimi and Auntie like what I did. The design is It's Daffycat's Mistletoe Reindeer. Have I ever mentioned that I love those little "deer"? Well, I do!. Below is my cat. He wasn't the least bit interested in watching the football game! I took the photo with my camera, so it's not the best, but you get the idea.

A small finish

While on the bus trip, I manged to complete the stitching of a couple small designs. One was for the HoE Halloween Scissor Fog exchange. I'll post the photo of it as soon as my partner receives it. The other one was for your's truly. It's a freebie design from Helga Mandl. I used a 32ct tea dyed fabric and DMC 4130 or is 4310 thread. I can never remember, but it is reds, rust and oranges. It is also one of my favorite multi-colored threads. I use it alot. I'm also working on a small gift for a friend, the Prairie Schooler 2001 kit, and Blackbird Designs Winter Wonderland. So, I'm trying to keep stitching while I have the patience and the desire. Also have signed up for two more exchanges for the end of the year. That should just about do it for me! Have a great night. Chicago Trip--Willis Tower

It's been a fast week since I got back from the Chicago bus trip, so it's high time I post some of the photos. The highlight for me was going to the Willis Tower and stepping on the Ledge, which is 103 stories up from the ground. So, here we go.

This is a photo of the WT (formerly called the Sear Tower) taken from the Shedd Aquarium. The locals call it Big Willy, or at least that's what our guide told us.

You know I said I couldn't find my purple linen, well, I still haven't. However, in the process of looking for it, I found $100 I had stashed. Guess I should clean more often. I also found my stitching glasses I thought got thrown away. As I said, guess I should clean more often. TTFN.

Halloween Exchange for Julianne

Julianne and I are doing a private Halloween exchange. We've been blogging friends for a few years now. Since we both like Prairie Schooler, I decided stitch one of their designs. I had so much fun stitching the cat, I decided to stitch another. I took the liberty of adding some Halloween effects to my photo. I just love that cat. The reason I chose to stitch it is because of the teeth. They reminded me of my cat Tobie, just before he decides to bite me. Julianne let me know she received the exchange yesterday and is using it as a scissor fob. I wanted to use a beaded edging, but the beads just wouldn't cooperate. The edging looked terrible, so I went with the plain whipstitch. Julieanne said she loved the piece. I'm glad cause I sure had a fun time stitching it!

I should never clean. I have some very, very purple linen somewhere. I was going to stitch up DaffyCat's little black cat on it, but can't find the piece anywhere. I'll just have to choose something else to stitch. I can't spend lots of time searching for it, because I have to get my trip stuff together. Maybe it will turn up after the trip. So, I have to decide on some other small project to take on the bus with me. Speaking of the trip, I guess I'd better get packing. We leave Sunday morn and nary a thing do I have in a suitcase!

Have a great weekend. My traveling friend, Diane and I are going to the Grayson Gumbo festival tomorrow. We had a great time last year, so we're gonna do it again. Now what was it I said about packing?

Latest Exchange Piece

I put this piece in the mail this afternoon. The design is a freebie, from a blog I read. Unfortunately, I forgot to note the name of the blog on my copied pattern. When I tried to google the URL printed on my copy I got an error. So, I would love to give the designer credit, I just can't find the blog. This is the third piece I have stitched from this design. Yes, I really like it. If you happen to know who the designer is so I can properly give credit. I just hope my partner likes it.

I have another exchange piece finished in the mail, but I cannot post it, because I know she reads my blog. I want it to be a surprise. As soon as she lets me know she's received it, I'll post the photo.

Just six more days till the Chicago bus trip. I'm really looking forward to it. It won't be my first time to Chicago, but it will be my first tour. There are so many things to see there. One of the stops is the Shedd Aquarium, which I am looking forward to. We're also stopping at the Art Institute of Chicago. There is supposed to be a textiles exhibit there. Hope I can find it.

The sty I live in finally got to me, so for the past month there's been sacks and sacks of treasures leaving via my friend Diane. Now believe me, if you came to my house, you'd look around and wonder what I had done. Just trust me, a small noticeable dent has been made. I even made a cautious entry into my stitching/junk room. Don't believe I will have it in order by trip time, but at least Lynn won't trip over anything when she goes in to take care of my Tobiecat. Speaking of my stitching, I'm sure there will be lots that I want to get rid of, so I can tell a give-a-way is in the offing.

HoE Fall Pyn Keepe from Riona

I received this wonderful pyn keepe from Riona as part of a HoE exchange. I love the braid she used to finish it off because there are sparkles in it. She posted on HoE that life had really gotten in the way of this exchange piece and I believe it. Not only did she not include a card in the package, her return address gave me no hint as to who she was! I have forgotten to include a card before, so I know how it can happen.

On the stitching front I am working on a private Halloween exchange piece for a friend I met through exchanging. The piece is coming along nicely. I'm also continuing to stitch on my BBD WIP and my Prairie Schooler piece. I've pulled the threads and cut the fabric for three more projects, two exchanges and a gift.

October 2nd, I leave on a bus trip for Chicago. It's been a while since the last trip, so I am getting excited. I hope the weather cooperates with us while we are up there.

Lots to Show

I have lots to show you so here goes:

First, here's the progress I've made on Blackbird Designs "WinterWonderland." I haven't stitched much on it during the last month because I've been doing exchange stitching. I have yet to master the art of photography. I do not know why the fabric appears to be three different colors.

Next is the 2011 Prairie Schooler Limited Edition kit "Comin' To Town." I am enjoying this stitch very much.

A couple of months ago I mentioned a friend at church approached me about finishing a kit her friend had started before the friend died. In a moment of weakness I said I would finish it. My conscience got the better of me today, so I put some stitches in. I had to work around the work already done, but made the most of it.

So here's the WIP:

I signed up for an exchange on HoE because it is a fall theme. We are to stitch a pyn keep. Fall stitching translates to a Prairie Schooler design. I chose a portion of one of the designs. I like the way it turned out. The design is not totally centered, but sometimes that just happens.

Guess I'll start working on the Humane Society weekly column for the local newspaper. One of the volunteers saw a woman throw a puppy into the fenced area of the shelter this afternoon. I'm sure this lady does not read...the local paper, but I'm gonna let her know she was seen doing this terrible deed.

I was thrilled when I saw Hazel's name on the package's return address. I knew I was in for a treat, and sure enough, she didn't disappoint me. Hazel, whom I insist on calling Helen for some unknown reason, stitched one of the Tiny Tidings. Isn't it a cutie. We have stitched for each other several times in various exchanges. She is a very talented stitcher, and I'm happy to call her a stitching buddy. Thank you so much! I absolutely love my little fellow!

Latest Project Update

I have been stitching! and enjoying it too. Spent most of the day working on BBD's Winter Wonderland. Here's my progress:

I was happy to get that roof finished. So, onward and downward on the design. Hopefully I will get it finished in time to have it framed for Christmas!

I sent off my latest exchange piece. I'll show it to you now, I just won't tell you who I stitched it for. It's Lizzie Kates' Sampling Christmas. I used the recommended thread and a 32ct opalescent fabric. I enjoy stitiching these little samplers. I do not understand why the bottom right hand corner of all my pillows are more pointed than the the other corners. I wonder what I could be doing that causes this.

Here's my latest project start. It's a Blackbird Designs Loose Feathers Winter Wonderland. So far I am loving working on it. I started it on June 25th. It was an easy choice since I had ordered the fabric and thread with the pattern. I think y progress is pretty good since I am a slow stitcher. Oh, I know my fabric looks like heck. I'm trying to use a hoop since I have to get the stitching up close to see it. Stitching in hand now causes my left hand to hurt. The miseries of aging! Happy 4th of July Stitching!

Here's my latest finish. It's a birthday gift for my stitching, traveling, and Weight Watcher friend Lynn. It's Blackbird Design's "Bird in Hand" on 28ct mystery linen and stitched with GA's Black Crow. At first I stuffed it with ground walnut shells and lavender, but the gws made it too heavy. So, I took them out and use fiberfill instead with much better results. Since I took a hiatus from stitching, I could not remember how to do the pillow! If you don't use it, you lose it for sure. I spend a good portion of the morning trying to make the hanger. Again, I couldn't remember how to do it. All in all, even with my memory lapses, I believe the pillow turned out quite nice.

We are suffering from a heat wave here in OK, along with several other states. Yesterday when I left from work, the temp inside my van was 110! Much too hot for this old gal to be out in.

Luckily, I've found my stitching mojo. I've been working on a BBD Loose Feathers I've had for a while. It is coming along and I'm enjoying stitching on it.

Grand Canyon, and Sheep Farm

My traveling buddy, her sister, another friend and I took a trip to the Grand Canyon in May. It was my first trip and I must say, I was overwhelmed by the vastness and the beauty. Here's a couple of shots of the canyon and me!

Diane and I also took a day trip to a Sheep Farm in Comanche, OK. Highlight of the trip was getting to milk a ewe. I must say, I was surprised that I was able to get any milk to come out, but I did. It was a little difficult to do, considering the bars we had to reach through, but here I am....the ewe milker!

Here's the piece I stitched for Elisa for the HoE Prairie Schooler Seasonal exchange. Elisa chose spring as the season she wanted stitched for her. I chose two designs from the April Leaflet #152. I used a 32ct fabric and the called for DMC threads and filled it with crushed walnut shells and lavender. It felt good to stitch again. So, I think I'll be picking up the needle again to finish a project I started and never finished.

While I was shopping at the farmer's market yesterday, I met a fellow church member. She had a needlepoint pillow top her good friend had started and never finished. The friend has since died, so she asked me if I would complete the stitching. I said yes, though I do not know what possessed me. Guess it was because I knew the lady who had died. I'll give it a try, but cautioned her not to be in a big hurry!

I've taken three more trips since I did my last trip post, one to the Grand Canyon, one to a sheep farm, and one to Omaha. As soon as I get my photos uploaded, I'll post some. I know you can't wait to see me milking a sheep!

Humbugs

I thought I'd try my hand at putting together a couple of humbug ornaments. The design I chose if from the 2010 December issue of The Gift of Stitching. When I started the project, I thought I wasn't going to like them, but, they rank right up there with my love of biscornu stitching. So, here's my foray into the world of humbugs. The ornaments are for my great-nieces that live in Kansas. If I can get my self in gear, I might make it to the PO to mail them tomorrow. If not, then I'll have to wait until Monday. Either way, I'm sending them to their Nana's house so they will have them on Christmas. I stitched them with good ole DMC in their favorite colors. So, here they are:

Well, my friend It's Daffycat has done it again. She's gifted us with another reindeer freebie. I have already printed it off and hope to stitch it this weekend for my great-nephew. I stitched Daffy's first reindeer for him last year. I'm also working on another of the humbugs for my youngest great-niece. They are such fun.

I have been a bad blogger, however, my part-time job has cut into my computer time. Stitching is still on my to-do list though.

Halloween brought three finished pieces for my friends Diane, Lynn and Mary Ann. L&M are stitchers so any stitched gift I give them is welcomed. Diane does not stitch, but does do alot of handwork, so she appreciates my efforts also. Here's what I gave them:

I also completed two exchange pieces. I'm going to go ahead and post them, since I'm pretty sure the recipients do not read my blog. Here they are:

These are from a Lizzie Kate design I've wanted to stitch for a while. I liked the way the ornament turned out so much, that I stitched the tree and made it into a small pillow. I used bugle beads for the candles on the pillow.

My traveling buddy wanted me to stitch an ornament for her great-niece and great-nephew. How could I resist stitching Daffycat's little reindeer designs? I couldn't, since I absolutely love them. Here's my finished ornaments:

I stuffed them with ground walnut shells and used the background fabric on the backs. They were stitched up using the sewing machine, which I find very challenging, but I think they turned out really cute. The fabric is an blue iridescent jazlyn. When I saw it, I thought of snow.

Finally, when I was about two years old, my grandmother crocheted a little dress for me. All the girls in my family have had their photo taken in this dress. My great-niece Olivia is the latest.I think she's a real cutie. The dress is over 60 years old!

Guess that's about it for me tonight. I can't believe it's almost Wednesday already.

Great Trip to New England preview

The motor coach and 44 travelers travelled over 3,700 miles. We saw some amazing sights, so I thought I would show you some of them. The fall colors were beautiful, and oh my, what a magnificent sight Niagara Falls is. I can mark off one more bucket list item after seeing the Falls. Here's a few of the places we visited:

This wonderful exchange was waiting for me when I got home today. It's from Janet B. Aren't the stitched pieces so cute. They are tiny, and you know how I love the tinys. The pieces are from "Creepy Crawly" by Blue Ribbon Designs. She used 32ct. Platinum Belfast and GAST threads. The goodies she included are so great too. Latest Exchange Finish

Gee it's been a long time since I last posted. My part-time job and a bout of allergy eyes have limited my stitching. I did manage to complete my HoE Halloween exchange and get it mailed. Here's what I stitched. It's the October Primitive Floss Tag from The Needle's Content. I used the recommended fibers and a 32ct fabric. I love these floss tags and have stitched several of them. Also included in the exchange was a Halloween scissor fob from Monique of My Mark. Monique designs some really fabulous scissor fobs. I don't think my partner reads my blog, so I'm posting it now.

I leave tomorrow on my nine day New England bus trip. I'm really looking forward to it, especially seeing Niagara Falls, Vermont, and New Hampshire. The weather doesn't look too promising, however. The extended forecast call for rain. "Oh well", as my good friend likes to say, I've been rained on before, and I do dry out!

I received this beautiful Thread Keep from Raffaella. We participated in a private exchange on BeckySC's. In her note she said this was her first "cartonnage" finish, and I'd say she did a fantastic job. The design is "Roses d'Automne" by Tralala. She used DMC and Atlie threads on Magnolia linen from Lakeside Linens. I had the privilege of stitching for Raffaella for an Arbor Day exchange. She said she still has the exchange on display! Thank you Raffaella, I love my Thread Keep!

Anita was my exchange partner on the Autumn Exchange hosted by BeckySC. She read on my blog that I liked Prairie Schooler Designs so she chose to stitch from #65 Acorns. She used 32 ct. Autumn Fields Lugana and DMC threads. She finished it as a "Mini Stitcher's Box." I must say, she outdid herself. Anita has more wonderful photos of this exchange on her blog, Hooked on Stitches. Pop on over to see them. Unfortunately, Anita is not in good health, so she will be discontinuing her exchange stitching. I am the proud owner of two of her "works of stitch" and will cherish them. Blogger and I are having problems this morning. I wanted to show the inside of Anita's box, but never could get the photo to upload. GRRR!!!

I am stitching some. Right now I am working on a gift and that's all I can say right now! It won't be long till my next bus trip, so I do need to complete a couple of exchange pieces before I leave.

My weight loss journey has hit something of a snag. I've eaten everything in site plus a lot, lot more. I haven't exercised much because I think I have a shin splint which is painful. I don't want to aggravate the injury any more, lest it keeps me from my trip!! I will probably try exercising next week, just to see how I do.

I heard from Julianne that she received my exchange piece. We have been exchange partners on quite a few exchanges. I feel like I know her well even though we've never met. Here's what I stitched for her:

The biscornu is her exchange piece. I stitched the matching fob as a belated birthday gift. There were other birthday goodies, but I forgot to take a photo of them. I used DMC 4130 and a design from Anita's Little Stitches. I also stuffed the pieces with ground walnut shells. The shells made the biscornu look so fantastic. My photo doesn't do them justice. I know Julianne's photo will much better.

Here's my latest finish. It's a BlackBird Designs and I used DMC 121 and some beads I bought at Michaels. It is stuffed with ground walnut shells and lavender I bought on ETSY. The background is the fabric I used to back it. The gift is for my Beta Sigma Phi secret sister. I hope she likes it. Our reveal is next Tuesday.

Thursday is the first bus trip in what seems like ages. It is part of the Cherokee Tribe History tours and this one is The Outlaw Tour. I'm looking forward to it. We are supposed to see Pretty Boy Floyd and some other famous outlaws. I hope it isn't raining too much, although we sure need the rain.

I'm still doing my Y classes and going to Weight Watchers. This week has been a bad one for me though. I've eaten everything in site. My part-time job is still going well. The only part that gives me grief is the financial side of it. I am so math challenged!

Here's a photo of the front of my latest exchange piece. I'll keep the back a secret until my partner receives it since her initials are on the back. The design is from the Needle's Content's Primitive Floss Tag series from last year. I do like this series very much and have stitched one for myself and a couple for exchanges.

I used a 28ct fabric and overdyed threads. I'm sure the threads were GAST's, but tell you the truth, it's been a while since I stitched it and I don't remember for sure.

Never in a million years would I have believed I'd be doing a dance class, but I am. Last night was the first class of Zumba at the local Y. It is a great cardio workout. All sizes, shape and ages were present. I do think my friend and I were the oldest ones there, but that's ok. We kept up with the youngsters just fine. My back is a little sore and my shoulders a bit stiff and that's the only negative I feel this morn. It burns calories, which I need. BTW, my WW'ers weight in last week had me at 42.2 pounds gone. I'll have a gain this week because my loss last week wasn't all from being on program. I had to fast for a couple of medical tests...so I'm ok with the gain.

Time for a bite to eat and then a little stitching before I start my day. Hope you have a great one too.

The reason I've been so lazy is I'm filling in as church secretary for a while. The job isn't demanding, it just takes up my afternoons. By the time I get home, fix my evening meal, and chill a while, it's almost my bedtime. It doesn't leave much stitching time.

We had a slight break in our weather, but it was back to over 100 degrees today. The humidity is a killer for us in this part of Oklahoma. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that my a/c keeps on a runnin'!

Erin has received the piece I stitched for the HoE For the Birds Exchange. I chose "Twitter Blue" again. I really like this design so much so that it will be stitched one more time as a gift for another friend.

On the stitching front is another exchange piece that is almost completed. I have a few days before it can be dropped in the mail. That's ok, because with my stitching mojo coming and going I need the extra time.

I have an appointment with my PC physician today. We will decide whether I go on insulin to get my diabetes under control. Seems my exercising and diet restrictions are not working. I really do not want to do the insulin. We'll see.

Another hot one is in store for us today and I'll be out in it quite a bit. On my agenda is exercise at the Y, Wal-Mart shopping with my mom, my dr. appointment and potluck at church tonight. I'll be pooped when it's all over.

Birthday gift for Lynn W.

It's been a while since I last posted to the ole blog. I have no excuse except for just not being in the mood. Little stitching has been going on and I'm terribly behind. It doesn't seem to bother me either!! Here's a little something I stitched up for my friend Lynn. Her birthday is long past, but she has been traveling and visiting with grandchildren. I'll give it to her this evening along with a pair of Gingher Elena's. It is from the 2009 JCS Ornament issue. The design is called Twitter Blue, but I changed the color to green to match Lynn's color scheme. The designer is Courtney Collection. I used a 40ct off white and Sulky #12 Blendables 713 4051. I'm sure it has a color name but its not on the spool. I got the spool from Anita's. This thread is wonderful to use.

Oklahoma has had some really hot weather this week. One day our heat index was 118. Needless to say I stayed in the house.

I'm still working on my self improvement plan to get ready for my big New England bus trip in October. I've lost 35 pounds since getting serious in April. The girls at the front desk at the Y have come to know me pretty well. On Monday I do an hour of Cardio, Tuesday I do 1/2 hour of Forever Fit and an hour of Silver Sneakers. Then I do a repeat on Wednesday and Thursday. I am getting stronger and I'm a little impatient. Hopefully by October I'll be able to climb the steps up to the bus with little difficulty.

I received this stitched piece from Casey as part of BeckySC's Holiday Exchange. She chose the perfect design for me. I love patriotic themed designs and this one in particular. Why you ask? Well, I stitched it for myself a year or so ago. So, now I have two, one small and one large. Thank you so much Casey. It's a wonderful exchange. I owe another big thank you to Casey because she had my name in the Easter exchange. She finished her little pillow in a technique that I use all the time now.

It is raining very hard here today. Hope it stops by tomorrow so we don't have to travel in the rain to Amarillo.

I saw on the Exchanging with BeckySC blog that Tricia received the scissor keeper I stitched for her. I chose Victoria's Sampler ornament from the 2009 JCS Ornament issue. I used 28ct cappuccino fabric and the called for DMC threads. The beads and buttons were from my stash. Tricia said she liked it, so I'm pleased. It was a fun stitch once I got going. My eyes were giving me such fits due to allergies and some eye strain. It's hard to stitch when your eyes are dripping!! I haven't received my exchange piece yet but sure it will arrive soon.

One of the last stops on our bus trip to Savannah was the Birmingham Botanical Gardens. It was extremely humid on this stop, I was tired, and thought, oh no. My first stop was the restroom, of course. In there was the little lady in the first photo. She and her husband of 60 years were renewing their wedding vows. She was so cute, that I asked her if I could take a photo. She beamed and I snapped. On my way out to the gardens I came across her husband. He was a cutie too. I asked him if he was the groom and he said something like I think so. While we were there, two other weddings were taking place. Poor brides, it was so hot!!

I am back home from my Savannah trip. It was a sight-filled trip with many great memories created. My photos are downloaded and ready to be cropped and identified. As soon as I get them organized I will post some. Meanwhile, I will leave you with this photo of the Vulcan statue in Birmingham.

Vulcan is the largest cast iron statue in the world. The park he's in is beautiful, and if you ride or walk up to the base of the statue you get a fantastic panoramic view of Birmingham. BTW. I rode up to the base. I have photos of from the base, however it was raining, so they are not very clear.

No stitching on this trip. Much to tired at night. I hit the bed when we reached the hotels!

Made my way to the Post Office this morning to mail my HoE exchange and get this beauty in return. Marjorie did a fantastic job on this piece. I really love it. Thank you Marjorie. She e-mailed me yesterday concerned since I had not received it because she popped in the mail on April 30th. I've had exchanges that go to California take a while. I'm just glad that it finally arrived so Marjorie can breath a sigh of relief.

It is storming here this morning. I woke up really early because of the thunder and lightening. No sleeping through this one. So, I've been busy packing, running errands, and taking my mom to and from the beauty shop. I'm ready for a morning nap. No can do though. I have to finish packing and then straighten up a bit. I have been really stressed trying to keep the house in a fairly neat state. My nature is extremely cluttered, as is my mind, so keeping my junk picked up is a chore in itself! Oh well, discipline is good for the soul.

Think I'll have a cup of coffee and relax a minute. Now, that I can do extremely well.

Despina finally received her Round 4 from me. I have wanted to do this pattern for quite a while, so Despina seem like a perfect recipient. One day I want to do it for me also. A combination of DMC and overdyed thread were used to stitch it. I believe I used a 28ct luguana for the fabric. Despina assures me that she is pleased with my choice, I'm pleased too.

It Started So Innocently

I have an exchange I must get in the mail this week before I leave on my bus trip. My stitching mojo is still missing, but I managed to get my piece stitched. Now for the finishing. Oh boy, talk about a snowball effect. The stash room was a total mess. I had to make a way for Lynn to get in there. She is taking care of my Tobiecat while I'm gone. My work table was stacked with fabric and thread that needed to be put away. I could not finish the stitched piece until I straightened up and then put away the fabric and the threads. Talk about multiplying! The more I straightened the more threads I found. Six, count them six, skeins of DMC 3371! What was I thinking? So now, the table is clear, the fabric and thread put up, and I am pooped! I'll have to work on that finishing tomorrow.

Before I tackled the stash room I went to Silver Sneakers. Then took my mother to get her groceries for the week and I picked up a few items to tide me over till Saturday. There went another hour. It always takes us an hour. Why is that?

Tomorrow is trash day. What started out as merely emptying my week's worth ended up major. How much trash can one person and cat produce? More snowballing, when I opened the fridge and decided it needed to be cleaned out. The trash is gone. Yea.

What's on my to do list after the stitching piece? The carpet has to be vacuumed. I have to pack for the trip. I'm gonna be tired before I even get on the bus.

It was a fun stitch. Rosalie loves PS and so do I so it was a fun stitch for me to do for her. She said she loved it. That makes the stitching worth it! The photo isn't very good. I think my camera batteries were getting low.

A sleepless night for me after a round of heavy storms passed through OK. A funnel, not a tornado, was sighted on the northwest side of Okmulgee. No damage was done.

Since I couldn't sleep, I tackled my stash room. I have too much for such a small area. It doesn't look good, but my friend Lynn can at least get in there while I'm on vacation. She has volunteered to feed and water my Tobie while I'm gone. Good friends are hard to come by, so I'll keep her! We enjoy many of the same things so I'm lucky to have her as a friend.

I received a wonderful ornament from Lisa S. today. I'll post a photo of it tomorrow or should I say later today since it is early morning.

The mailman brought me a great Christmas Ornament from Roberta on Saturday. Goodie, goodie, I have another reindeer ornie to add to my collection. I absolutely love it and the way she attached the stitching to the pillow. Thank you so much Roberta!

Speaking of reindeer, I am so far behind on my monthly stitching. My tree may not have many 2010 ornaments if I don't get in gear. Somewhere between January and May I lost my stitching mojo. Sure do hope I get it back soon.

I have one exchange to complete and get in the mail this week. The mailing deadline is while I am on the Savannah trip with the bank group. I also need to pack and tidy up the duplex this week. Tidying and I are just like oil and water. We don't mix! I sure don't want to return home to a mess. Busy busy, this week.

Spring Exchange for Conny

I heard from Conny that she received my Spring package for the Seasonal Exchange Group. She said it brightened her day since she was suffering from the flu. I chose to stitch Glory Bee's freebie, "Spring Tulips" using the DMC recommended threads and a 28ct fabric from my stash. I finished it using my new favorite method, whip stitching the backing fabric to the linen and filling it with crushed walnut shells. I fogot to take a snap of the fabric.

Another busy day for me. My sister and brother-in-law are coming to spend the day with my mom, so I'll be over at her house.

Two little cuties

My sister's family visited last weekend. They helped me get a start on my cleaning. Lori, my niece was a real trooper. She tackled the bedroom and my closet. My nephew tackled the garage, and my brother-in-law the kitchen. Lori said it wasn't as bad as she thought it would be. She had visions of hording! The photos are of my little great-niece and great nephew. I took a day trip with the bank and saw the mustache in one of the country stores. I immediately thought of him!

I do not know where my stitching mojo has been, but it hasn't been here in the house! I am just barely making the deadline on three exchanges tomorrow. I have one more to complete before I go on my trip to Savannah, which is three weeks from today. Then it's no more for a few weeks.

Tomorrow is the Adoption Day/Book Sale for the Humane Society. I will go and help for a while. It's been a busy week for this old gal. I need a rest day. Guess it will be Sunday as it is supposed to be.

Great mail day today. This little gem came from Angela for the Lizzie Kate Exchange. It fits me to a tee, because I am retired and I drink lots of good Community Coffee during the day. I love it and thank you so much Angela.

The Savannah trip itinerary was also in the mail. I cannot believe it's just a month away. Am working hard to get more strength in my legs so I can get on and off the bus with out much difficulty.

And wahoo, my IRS tax refund is here. A great down payment on another bus trip. What a day. Looking forward to the weekend. Going to my middle sister's 60th birthday party.

HoE Winter House from Ina

Ina (no blog) from the Netherlands had my name in the HoE Winter House Exchange. She wrote in her card "Now it's my turn to make an exchange." I stitched for her in the HoE Red Heart exchange. My photo doesn't show it, but the thread she used has shades of blue and purple in it. She also used petite beads for the snow. I think this is just the cutest little needle book. Love it, love it. Thank you Ina. It will travel with me in on my bus trip stitching bag.

Yesterday I met up with a former co-worker in Tulsa to have lunch and shop. Oh my, she's dangerous...to my pocketbook. Kent, yes, that's her name, loves to go to out of the way specialty shops. Needless to say, my purse was lighter. We had a great time and plan to meet more often.

Today is Silver Sneakers. I hope I can make it through the session. My right knee is really acting up. Such is the life of a silvertone. Enjoy your day.

What a surprise I had in my mail box today. Sharon of It's Daffycat gifted me with this darling little pin pillow. It's stuffed with ground walnut shells and lavender. Pin Pillow for Rosalie

The USPS has confirmed that Rosalie (no blog) has received my exchange piece. I'm going to go ahead and post the photo. Since it's a busy holiday weekend I don't think she will see it. This was for an exchange arranged by BeckySC on her blog. I stitched Blackbird Designs "Pins and Needles with the suggested Crescent threads. Crushed walnut shells were use to stuff it. This was my first time to use them and find I quite like them. The photo does not do justice to how pretty it is in person. Another piece I think I'm going to have to stitch for myself.

Today I helped with the Easter Egg hunt at church. Lots of kiddies running and collecting eggs. It was fun to watch them. I also woke up with a terrible crick in my neck. The corn bag and hot show did not help it either. My neck is so sore that I may not be able to stitch today. Not!! I'll just suffer.

I heard from Lisa S. my HoE Winter House exchange arrived in her mail box. Poor Lisa, this is the second exchange she has received from me this year. The design is from Lizzie Kate. I used 28ct Winter Wind opalescent Lugana as the fabric and the recommended threads. For the finishing I backstitched around the edge and whipstitched the backing fabric on to the design. This method takes a little longer to finish, however, I love hand finishing my projects. Many thanks to Lennu for suggesting this method. I love it and will use it quite often. Here's a snap of the backing fabric.
Today I meet Diane at the Y for Silver Sneakers, finish an exchange piece, and start a new one. Who could ask for a better day? Enjoy yours!

Cathy received her GFTHMBYH Easter exchange. I poached the the photos from her blog because they were better than mine! The design is from the new Prairie Schooler leaflet Signs of Spring. Don't you just love the little chickie in the design? DMC fibers were used on a mystery fabric from my stash.

I am busy stitching on an exchange piece. Hopefully I will have it completed this weekend. Saturday is my slob day. Every day this week has been busy so not much stitching has been done. Does this say withdrawal symptoms to you? It does to me!!

My friend and travelling buddy Diane and I joined the YMCA. We are doing the Silver Sneakers program. We're probably the youngest seniors in the class, but not the fittest! Well, that isn't true. D is more fit than I am. So far so good for me. I have been a little stiff, but not sore. I'm also walking a little at the Y. We are exploring the possibility of doing water aerobics.

Easter Exchange for Lisa S.

Here's the Easter pillow I made for Lisa S.. She was my partner on the Holiday Exchange. The design is a Shepherd's Bush. It was supposed to be a needleroll, but when I decided to change the color of the fabric to purple, I did a major screw up. So, the needleroll became a pin pillow. I also included some Threadworkx thread, note cards and Easter stickers in the exchange. Lisa's favorite color is purple so the exchange had lots of purple in it. She said she really loved it, so I'm a happy stitcher.

I stitched this design from The Sampler Girl for my friend Karen's birthday. I love the simplicity of it. Sure hope she likes it. I tried a new method of finishing the pillow. Instead of using the sewing machine to stitch the backing and the design together, I xxxxx'ed the outer edge all around, and then whip stitched the backing fabric on. I like the way it turned out and will use this method again. It's a little time consuming, but I like to finish by hand so it suits me perfectly.

My friend Mary Ann from Idabel is moving back to Okmulgee and if all goes as planned we'll be neighbors. She, Diane, Lynn and I went to Tulsa and shopped in The Silver Needle. Then headed to Hobby Lobby for some fabric. I didn't buy a single thing in HL. We also went to Southern Agriculture and purchased ground walnut shells. I want to try them out in a pin pillow. Then we went to a cafe-bar called Cosmos for an early supper. It was an interesting place, somewhat trendy, that had excellent sandwiches and and a killer cup of coffee. We had a great time.

Suzanne had my name as her stitching partner in the FTT exchange. She stitched a Blue Ribbon Designs freebie, Alphabet Tree. in beautiful colors. On the back she made a pocket for my scissors. Isn't it great. She must know I like the color purple.

I've been busy doing NOTHING. That is bad, bad because now I'm behind in my exchange stitching. This lazyitis person must now get in gear and get two in the mail this week. They are stitched and one is finished. The weather must have something to do with it. I had to run the ceiling fan a couple of times last week. That means it's getting warmer and I don't like warm weather.

A busy week is ahead for me. So, guess I'll get in gear. Hope everyone has a great week.

First off, I received this little fella from Julianne. We are in a private exchange group and this is what she stitched. When I saw the name on the return address I knew I was in for a great surprise. She didn't disappoint me. In addition to the stitched piece she sent a chart, a notepad, and beautiful piece of linen. Thank you so much. Did I mention I love it!!?
Then I received this chart and chart pack from a dear blogger that has a monthly give away. I couldn't believe it when I saw I won for March. BeckySC is a beautiful lady who is so generous. I thank her. This is a wonderful gift.

And here's some stitching I did for the HoE LHN exchange. I had Janet B. as my partner. On her wish list she asked for socks and seed, so I had to comply. Well, you know, I didn't really have to, but I wanted to. Check out her blog to see the back of the piece. I totally forgot to get a photo of it. In her description she referred to the braid I used as "gimp braid". I have never heard it called that, but I'm glad I know now.

We had soup and sandwiches before Lenten services at church tonight. One of the members brought a Chicken-Mushroom soup that was super. I wanted more, but controlled myself. I didn't want to fall asleep in church!

I saw on the Christmas Ornament Swap blog that Marie P received the ornament I stitched for her. Pop on over to her blog to see the adorable wool feather tree she made in a class she took. The design is from the 2009 JCS Ornament Issue. It's a Jeannette Douglas design Christmas stamp 09. I stitched it on 28 ct. opalescent jobelan and added a charm from my stash. Marie says she loves it. I know I had a great time stitching it. It was one of the designs from this issue I really wanted to stitch. I may have to do one for myself.

I could not get a good photo of these two pillows. I think you get the idea though. I'll be travelling to Idabel with Lynn to see Mary Ann this weekend. So, thought I should stitch up a little something for them. The sewing machine and I are not friends, so the finishing is a little rough. It is the thought that counts. I used an opalescent jobelan fabric and #12 Sulky 4030 thread. The design is one of primitivebetty's freebies. They really are prettier than they show. I hope the girls like them. Keeping my fingers crossed that the dreaded "s" word doesn't keep us from going. Later...

Chance of Snow tomorrow

Sounds if my part of Oklahoma may have a chance of snow tomorrow. I hope it isn't a here we go again. I took my mom out to Wal-Mart after church to get her some staples just in case. It was wild. People around here panic at the thought of snow.

Saturday I and another Humane Society volunteer attended a meeting for animal rights advocates. It was interesting. Afterwards we went to Hobby Lobby and got her shelf for her bathroom wall, and I picked up two wall hangings cheap. They were 66% off. Soon as I get them hung, I'll post a photo with some of my needlework hanging from them. We also stopped by the Silver Needle for the Superbowl Sale. I'm afraid I didn't purchase very much. Two packages of beads and two bee buttons for my friend.

With all the talk of snow, I'll show you a photo of the bush outside my back door. You've seen the night one before. I thought I'd show the before and after. Hope all have a good week.

It's snowing now. What can I say, rain, ice, snow, very wintry weather. I don't mind because

I'm not getting out. So, what's a stitcher to do besides stitch? Well, some finishing is in store. I think they both turned out pretty well, even though they are a little lopsided. No matter how hard i try, there's always a finishing imperfection. I decided to continue stitching a reindeer a month for the 2010 Ornament Challenge. A couple more days of fun stitching, then I must get busy on some exchange pieces. These are my deadlines, which I need in my life. Enjoy the rest of your day.

Oklahoma Ice Storm

I haven't lost electrical power yet. My lights did dim a while back. So, while I can still function, here's a photo of a crepe myrtle bush outside my back door. Ice can be so damaging, and pretty at the same time.
